Traditional mirror work that glints in the sunlight; ethereal tulle bordered with robust lace; the unexpected elegance of Victorian-influenced pearls. My collaboration with Makiaj Beauty explores contrast, texture, and the tension between Eastern and Western design.
With over 13 years of experience in bridal and beauty services, Makiaj Beauty sought a brand refresh. They aimed to create looks for the quintessential South Asian bride, spanning traditional ceremonies like the Sangeet and Ceremony to contemporary events like cocktail evenings and receptions. Their core intention was to inspire brides to push boundaries and indulge creativity while honoring their cultural heritage.
In curating each look for the Makiaj brand shoot, I researched the classic American South Asian bride's vision and goals, exploring how to blend elements from the East and West for captivating cross-cultural styling.

My final looks showcased exciting elements of both Eastern and Western bridal design. I celebrated the ancient craft of mirror work, also known as sheesha or abhala bharat, which is iconic in South Asian event wear. Instead of the expected dupatta for the bridal ensemble, I worked with a local artisan to design a bespoke cathedral veil. I curated jewelry with a Victorian feel for a classic Western touch. A modern color palette of soft pink and neutrals, the introduction of a corset bustier, and the choice of a modern tennis necklace with drop studs added flair to the cocktail saree looks.

The mint green sari by Itrhofficial was my unexpected favorite from Makiaj’s shoot. The sleek drape appears thin and lightweight yet weighs around 15lb due to the tens of thousands of crystals studding its surface.
The daring halter top exudes sexiness but is balanced by the sophistication of the extra-long pallu. The extravagant crystal embellishment evokes disco balls and dance floors, making it the ultimate pick for celebratory events. Statement chandelier earrings and voluminous curls add dimension to the look.
